Halalang Marangal is a coalition of faith-based and Catholic organizations committed to a clean, accurate, responsible and transparent 2022 elections. To promote a true halalang marangal, one of its major programs is to engage Filipino voters in a voter education program. Below are the three programs we have adapted from the three partner organizations who have joined our coalition.
Tamang Kandidato by Bawat Isa Mahalaga
The Tamang Kandidato program aims to promote godly governance through national transformation and true empowerment of the sovereign Filipino people under Biblical laws of God and the Philippine Constitution. It takes an interactive approach that encourages active participation and discussions as it hopes to transform the mindset on our political involvement. It takes a holistic and an inside-out approach that encourages self-reflection, discussion of issues, concerns, and common aspirations of Filipinos. At the end of the exercise, it aims to equip the voter to take a more objective evaluation of aspiring political candidates that fit the needs and aspirations not only of the individual voter but with the national interest in mind.
Kuwentuhang Bayan by Samahang Lingkod ng Bayan
Kuwentuhang Bayan offers a platform where Filipinos can talk with each other about the issues faced by their different communities and country as a whole. The program starts with a conscientization exercise where participants reflect on themselves and the country. It then proceeds to enhance the participant’s engagement through visioning and problem analysis, and help the participants identify concrete issues relevant to themselves and their communities. Lastly, it aims to empower the participants by coming up with a detailed action plan to help them realize their vision and goals.
Gabay Pilipino by People’s Choice Movement
The Gabay Pilipino program takes a more direct approach to the evaluation of the aspiring political candidates by setting two major vetting processes. One, by identifying key common characteristics, issues, and qualifications of aspiring candidates, as part of its “knock-out issues.” And two, by subjecting the same candidates to a more tedious and deliberate vetting process that covers their character, competence, and commitment. At the end of the exercise, it seeks to evaluate candidates based on their actual character and competence objectively.
